HISTORY:
THe Panama Canal Opens. It was one of the largest construction projects of all times. On August 15, 1914, after years of extensive work, the U.S.-made waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans opened to ships. The first ship through was the U.S. vessel Ancon, which was carrying both cargo and passengers.

DEFINITION:
”Swatted” – a hoax phone call is made to emergency services (911) and alerts them to some kind of extreme violence at a location, especially a target address. The caller is hoping for a prompt armed response from a S.W.A.T. law enforcement team – hence part of the name. The key here is the target victim and the false pretenses of the call.

QUOTE:
”We need to act without delay, as there is already sufficient evidence to show that pubic health generally would improve if more emphasis was placed on increased exposure to outdoor air.”

Argentina’s Socialist Inflation Nightmare Worsens
Massive demonstrations continue to protest the government cutting the nation’s generous subsidy programs. Organizers try to shut down businesses and roads until the government relents and increases welfare subsidies. It seems that everyone wants inflation reduced but is unwilling to face the hardship of doing without while the government cuts spending. Corruption and money management issues are at the heart of Argentina’s crisis. Simply, the government keeps spending more than it makes. More money is borrowed from the IMF, and loan and interest payments become more unaffordable. Between 1989 and 1990, Argentina’s inflation hit a record 2,600%. Today, economists predict prices could jump 90% by the 2022 year-end.
