Our area of the country has gone 21 days without rainfall. The weather has been beautiful and mild. It has been good to be outdoors. But rain has moved in and we need it. However, it doesn’t appear to be hanging around too long.

HEADLINE:
Hundreds of Florida Dairy Cows Perish in Ian’s Savage Wake. Volunteers Help.
The herd was hustled from their stalls and into the open fields. Usually the cows would be safer from the storm. Of course, the massive, steel-frame, metal-roof barns that housed the Dakin Dairy Farms’s cows were destroyed by the high winds. The dairy lost more than 250 cows. Farmer Jerry Dakin estimates that the average worth of each lost cow is about $1,800 each.

Today, only 52 dairies are left in Florida, down from 350 at the turn of the century.

The Lancet COVID-19 Commission published an article on Sept. 14, 2022 about the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic. As of May 31, 2022, 6.9 million deaths from COVID-19 were reported, but the estimated excess death toll is 17.2 million, based on data from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. The report states that “this staggering death toll is both a profound tragedy and a massive global failure at multiple levels.”

ECONOMY:
US Manufacturing activity grew at its slowest pace in nearly 2-1/2 years in September as new orders contracted amid aggressive interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve.

The 12.4% annual rise in food prices in the United States is the biggest increase since February 1979, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

68 PERCENT
Just 5% of American respondents to a Kaiser Family Foundation survey said they had already received a booster and 27% said they would get one as soon as possible. The rest (68%) said they would wait and see, only getting one if required, or definitely not get one, or couldn’t get one because they hadn’t received a primary series.

STATEMENT:
The government isn’t supposed to control us. We are supposed to control the government.

TRUISM:
When the burden of government is too heavy, the people will respond to reject the ruling power either by vote, by civil disobedience, or by revolt. This should be a lesson for anyone who leads a nation, a state, or a team. You can only press the people under you so far as history as shown over and over again.
